I Can
There are no limits to what you can do when you believe in yourself. Unfortunately, confidence is a quality that too many women sorely lack. When faced with a great challenge, some women immediately respond, “I can’t.” But you really can. Once you’ve explored your emotional relationship with your body and have done some healing – so you’re on sound emotional footing – you can let your spirit soar.
Set your love goals
Kacy encourages all of her clients to have one goal that is larger than their physical selves. Thousands, if not millions, of regular everyday women of all ages, shapes and sizes run, walk, bike and shuffle their way through 5Ks, 10Ks, charity bike rides and triathlons every year. Now it’s your turn.
Think about yourself in an athletic sense for 15 to 20 minutes and write down what comes to mind. What athletic endeavors pique your interest or make you go, “Hmmm,” before you proceed to dismiss them as impossible for you? A marathon? A mountain climb? Think about what would thrill you and what you would be proud to accomplish. Read through your list and circle the one that excites you most.
- Write down your goal, such as “I want to do one of the all-women’s triathlons like Danskin’s.”
- Write down what has stopped you from going for it in the past, such as “I don’t know where to ride my bike to train. I’m afraid of making a fool of myself.”
- After each “obstacle,” write a solution. You might say, “I can inquire about safe riding routes at the local bike shop and take a condition class to condition my body for cycling. I can attend a local triathlon or running event to check out the scene and assure myself that not everyone who participates is a skinny, ultra-fit competitive type.”
- Finally, write a concrete action plan for just one of those solutions, such as “I will enroll in the upcoming eight-week session of cycling lessons at the local rec center.” This might require doing a little research online.
